Business intelligence and self-service analytics for HHS

The Office of Applications and Platform Services (OAPS) in the HHS Office of the Chief Information Officer provides reporting and data analysis for Operating Divisions across the department through the Business Intelligence Information System (BIIS), drawing on personnel, time and attendance, payroll, learning, and other administrative data. Under the Business Intelligence and Analytic Support Services (BIASS) program, IGS plans, builds, administers, and documents the reports and analytics HHS staff rely on, and trains users to expand self-service analytics across the enterprise.

  • Remediated more than 900 BI reports for the move from on-premises Oracle to SAP HANA in the cloud, rewriting the SQL report by report instead of a lift-and-shift, with 60% done in the first three months
  • Interactive reports and dashboards in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, and Tableau, plus a self-service tool for on-demand time and attendance, personnel, pay, and budget reporting
  • Administration and security of the BIIS environment, with role-based, least-privilege access and a production deployment checklist for every release
  • Section 508-compliant user guides and twelve live training sessions in three months, including splitting a 130-page Web Intelligence guide into Essentials and Advanced editions
