VX-130, migrating 226 billion records without touching live patient systems

VX-130 is a government off-the-shelf (GOTS) data extraction and migration system originally architected in 2008 by Mike Baker, now an IGS Health IT software architect, while at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Built to extract data from 130 VA Medical Center instances of VistA, it today supports over 163 sites, synchronizing data every minute into VA's Corporate Data Warehouse and Oracle's Health Data Intelligence platform.

Under his leadership VX-130 became the backbone of VA's Electronic Health Record Modernization initiative, transferring and validating 226 billion records between VA legacy systems and Oracle Health Millennium. Its non-intrusive extraction, auto-adaptive code generation, outage recovery, and GUI monitor are the migration principles IGS applies across this capability.
